The Shared donation aims to benefit two different couples. One whose woman doesn’t has viable eggs to get pregnant, and the other one, whose woman can donate, and gets with this donation an significant reduction in the treatment`s cost. Such reduction is possible because in this process, two IVF are realized at the same time. To begin the process, a woman under 35 years old, that needs for some reason IVF treatment to get pregnant, or willing to freeze her eggs, shall agree to yield, anonymously, part of her collected eggs. The maximum age is stipulated because, usually, women under 35 produce enough eggs to share, without affect her own treatment. In this way, women who had lost ovarian function have the chance to get pregnant through IVF realized with donor’s eggs. That`s what we can call sharing life.
In Brazil, the Federal Medicine Council stipulates ethical norms to orientate the process of egg donation, which states that the donation must not have profit character, the donor`s anonymity must be preserved and that the donation between relatives is not allowed. Besides that, specializes clinics must maintain, permanently, a clinical registry with phenotypic characteristics and cellular material of donors.
The selection of donors is a responsibility of the clinic, which must assure phenotypic and immunological similarity between donor and receiver. The donor, in turn, must have the following characteristics: be under 35 years old, be phonotypic similar to the receiver, have negative history of genetic disease and negative lab test to AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis B.
